State Treasurer Dan Rutherford Statutorily Reducing His Own Budget
Office of Illinois Treasurer Dan Rutherford|Wednesday, October 19, 2011
Rutherford legislation introduced to lower appropriation.
State Treasurer Dan Rutherford is taking unique action by asking the state legislature to reduce the amount of general revenue funding for operation of the treasurer’s office in the current fiscal year. House Bill 3848, sponsored by Rep. Sandy Cole (R-Grayslake) and Rep. Fred Crespo (D-Streamwood), will statutorily lower the general revenue operating budget for the Illinois State Treasurer’s Office to a level below that of a decade ago.
Rutherford said, “I continue to make structural, money-saving changes in the office while increasing results in services to taxpayers. The upcoming veto session will present difficult, but eminently important decisions for the General Assembly to get the state’s financial house in order. Cutting my own budget is a positive start.”
