Illinois State Treasurer Dan Rutherford supports the Illinois Senate Republicans’ proposal to save taxpayers $6.7 billion from Governor Pat Quinn’s proposed spending plan.
"I would like to praise Senate Leader Christine Radogno and the Senate Republicans for their thorough, diligent work to find reasonable alternatives to the state’s endless cycle of borrowing, spending beyond our means, and then borrowing some more," said Rutherford. "The proposed spending cuts would save us from having to repay billions of dollars in heavily back-loaded, long-term loans. Taxpayers are demanding that Illinois’ elected officials be wise stewards of their hard-earned money."
Treasurer Rutherford hopes to continue his productive, ongoing dialogue with Governor Quinn to share his views on eliminating wasteful spending, reforming our public pension system, and responsibly restructuring some remaining debt with shorter-term, affordable loans.
