As the deadline for raising the federal debt ceiling looms in Washington D.C., Illinois State Treasurer Dan Rutherford instituted twice-daily briefings with his senior investment teams earlier this week about the effect an impasse would have on the state treasury.  “I want my office to be well prepared and positioned to shift investment strategies if the national debt ceiling is not raised. My number one priority is to safeguard the state portfolio from losses, earning a return is second,” said Rutherford.

Illinois State Treasurer Dan Rutherford, State Representative Daniel J. Burke and Alderman Ed Burke are encouraging residents of the 23rd legislative district and Chicago's 14th Ward to attend their Cash Dash event on Thursday, July 21, to determine if the state is holding any money or unclaimed property entitled to them. The event will be held from 12:30 p.m. - 2:30 p.m. at 2650 West 51st Street. Treasurer Rutherford will be in attendance from approximately 1:30 p.m. - 2:15 p.m.

State Treasurer Dan Rutherford is announcing that he is pursuing a bid sale of Granite City property, which would clear the way for economic development and jobs.  Rutherford said, “The decision about what to do with this piece of property has been my responsibility, and I feel it’s high time that it be used for job creation.”  The property, at 1151 Johnson Road, has been held in a trust under the direction of the state treasurer for the benefit of the people of the state of Illinois after the property was forfeited as part of collateral in a state loan.
